Is It Time For A Pedicure Treatment?

We’re now well into 2020 and you’ve been busy getting your New Year off to a great start. So busy that you may have overlooked your own health and skincare routines. Perhaps you do take due care and attention, by moisturising your skin every day and being careful to apply makeup that brings out the best in you. But what about your toenails, are you looking after them properly, and might you need a pedicure treatment?

Do you need a pedicure?

Our feet, in particular, take a pounding every day, but are very often neglected when it comes to regular care and attention. Many people suffer from niggling aches and pains in their feet from time to time, which can be alleviated with a relaxing spa pedicure. We know that dipping our feet in a basin of hot water is a short term fix, but if you really want to bring a little colour back to your feet, or reshape your tootsies then it’s a professional pedicure that you need. A good foot treatment is heaven, but pedicure techniques can vary from type of polish to massage so it’s important to find the right pedicure for you.

Perfect for removing hard dead skin cells from your feet, a spoiling pedicure is essential for keeping your feet and your toenails in clean working order. Expect to leave with smooth skin, healthy, shaped toenails and a dash of your favourite nail polish as the finishing touch.

What’s the fuss no one really sees my feet?

Just because people don’t see your feet everyday, doesn’t mean that it’s actually fine to leave them untreated for any length of time. Just look at some of the general problems associated with the condition of your feet. These include, but are not restricted to:

  • Pain caused by calloused skin on base of your foot

  • Ingrown toenails

  • Curved or uneven looking nails

  • Fungal nails and diseases

  • Thickened and/or brittle nails

What’s involved during a pedicure session?

From luxurious massaging water jets to a simple hot foot bath, there's a host of different pedicure treatments you can select from. A pedicure can be performed on both dry or wet feet, though for a more luxurious experience most people opt for a wet pedicure, where both of your feet are submerged in hot, soapy, scented water that softens the skin and cuticle areas. Like most treatments, methods can vary from salon to salon, but the result should always be soft feet, with all dead and dry skin removed from the foot.

There is of course a lot more to a pedicure than just soaking the feet, filing your nails and adding a coat or two of polish. If you’ve never had one before, here’s what you can expect:

  • A pedicure lasts on average between 30-90 minutes

  • During a pedicure your nails will be cleaned, shaped and trimmed to prevent ingrown nails.

  • Our highly qualified therapists will exfoliate the skin to remove dead cells, smoothing the surface and stimulating skin and nail regeneration.

  • Calluses, cracked and dead skin are sloughed from your feet using salts and minerals together with a pumice stone or a buffer file, which not only makes your feet look much better – it makes them feel much better too.

  • Wraps, mud and algae are very often used too

  • Further comfort is then provided with what is known as a CND Marine exfoliation, followed by the application of a CND Marine Moisture Mask

  • Special cuticle treatments and moisturising creams and/or aromatherapy oils are then used to hydrate the skin, massaged into the lower leg and foot, which nourishes the nails and cuticles.

  • A pedicure can also help your posture -- you’ll walk more naturally and comfortably on cared-for feet.

Massaging provide stress relief, improves blood flow and helps to relieve aches and pains. It is also very relaxing. The end result is softer skin and you’ll feel re-energised. The various oils, herbal pastes, treatments and polishes used can strengthen your fingernails and toenails.

Your choice of footwear afterwards is also crucial. You don't want to have to push newly high-gloss finished toenails into socks and shoes for your travel home. Spa-standard nail polish may take up to 12 hours to dry completely (unless you're having a gel polish pedicure, which dries instantly). Whatever your feet arrive in, we recommend that you have flip-flops or open sandals to wear afterwards.

Feel healthier happier and more confident with a regular pedicure

Regular pedicures - recommended around once a month - will not only improve the overall condition of your feet, with stronger toenails, but just as importantly you’ll benefit from better blood circulation too!  So you’ll feel like you’re walking on air for days afterwards. And don’t forget you can play your part too, with regular moisturising, nail trimming and general care and attention to keep your feet in tip top condition.

And when the better weather arrives and your toes are more frequently on show, you’ll really benefit from starting your pedicure sessions now. Remember prevention is much better than cure and with regular care you’ll not need to worry about foot conditions which can be painful, unsightly and frankly, embarrassing. Additionally, you can expect a professional pedicure to last up to 5 or 6 weeks.
